Muskoka North ReStore - Canada's 76th Habitat Restore

It was a long time coming, but we finally opened the doors to our new ReStore in Huntsville! The first day was more successful than we could have imagined, and we are so thrilled to be able to serve the Huntsville community. Going by the name of "Muskoka North ReStore," this is Canada's 76th Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and one of over 750 worldwide.
Our ReStore outside of Bracebridge has brought great opportunities to the community in terms of volunteerism, accepting diversity, reducing landfill waste and supporting our build projects, and to expand these elements further throughout Muskoka is something we take great pride in.

Weeks leading up to the big day, we were fortunate to get to know our new team of staff and volunteers, who were busy learning the ropes, practicing their skills and helping put the finishing touches on our first donations to the store. The Muskoka North ReStore family united on opening day, and look forward to announcing a date for their Grand Opening Ceremony, where the local community will be able to join them in celebration.

Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department & Habitat Muskoka

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department spent the last weekend of July fighting housing poverty with Habitat Muskoka. With their help, we were able to complete the framing and set-up of the four exterior walls, plus the framing of one interior room.
Although the climate has become easier to work in over the past couple weeks, the team naturally adapted to working in the sun's heat, and had the pleasure of enjoying lunch in the shade, courtesy of Deerhurst Resort.

At the end of their shift on Sunday, the firefighters spent some extra time to celebrate their accomplishments, tired though satisfied from a hard day's work.

The firefighters and Muskoka Community Church are just two of many groups that illustrate the strong support from the Huntsville community. Months before the build began, we couldn't help but notice something about the people in Huntsville: the intense drive they had to bring positive change to their community. Our volunteers have shown some great dedication to the build thus far, and the support from neighbours, media and general public has been beyond out expectations. We look  forward to rewarding Huntsville with the new Muskoka North ReStore, which is scheduled to open on August 14th.
