Trim, grill, doors, basing and casing!

A GREAT DAY OF ACCOMPLISHMENT WITH ALL THE VOLUNTEERS BRIAN MCDONALD WAS ABLE TO GET IN TO THE SITE TODAY!


VOLUNTEERSSITE SUPERVISOR HOWARD RUTTAN
NAN ALLEN, TED DAGLISH, DEBBY DRAPER, GARY HAMMOND, SUSAN HEMMING, PETER HEMMING, OWEN MELLOW, DON RAMSEY, KEN WETTLAUFFER, MIKE GUIRY, DOUG PATTERSON, WILLY FLETCHER. 

CONTRACTORS: CHARLIE AND LINDA NUNN COMPLETED THE FLOORING INSTALLATION THIS MORNING. BOTH UNITS LOOK GREAT WITH THE QUALITY OF THE WORK, AS WELL AS THE QUALITY OF THE MATERIAL.

ACTIVITIES: INSTALLING TRIM IN BOTH 1014 AND 1014A. 

BASE AND CASING IS ALMOST COMPLETE IN BOTH UNITS. 
IT WAS CROWDED AT TIMES BUT EVERYONE WORKED  IN TEAMS, IN GOOD HUMOUR AND ACHIEVED IMPORTANT RESULTS.
                    DEBBIE WAS BUSY CLEANING THE WINDOWS, PICKING UP MATERIAL AND INSTALLING  VENT GRILLS.
                    MOST DOORS HAVE NOW BEEN INSTALLED.

NEXT: COMPLETE TRIM INSTALLATION.
          FILL NAIL HOLES AND PAINT TOUCH-UP.
         WESTERBY TO CONTINUE WITH SIDING INSTALLATION.
         BRENT QUARRIES TO DELIVER FILL FOR FRONT OF HOUSES.
         BEDROCK TO GRADE FILL.
         CREW FROM ADAM ELECTRIC TO INSTALL ALL ELECRICAL FIXTURES INCLUDING WIRING HRV AND SUMPS.

Various volunteers who have delivered meals all these months.
Then there are the ladies who make lunches in the church. The reason they use the church is because they mee the Ontario Food Premises Regulation 562/90.

SIDING ON FRONT OF BUILDING IS ALMOST COMPLETE AS WELL AS ALL CORNER TRIMPIECES AROUND HOUSE.

CONTRACTORS: CHARLIE AND LINDA WERE INSTALLING  VINYL AND CARPET UNDERPAD IN  1014. PLAN TO HAVE REMAINDER OF FLOOR DONE SATURDAY AM.
                         HARRY WESTERBY AND CREW INSTALLING SIDING TRIM. WILL BE WORKING TO COMPLETE DURING WEEKEND.

ACTIVITIES: DIANE, MARY AND PAT WERE FILLING NAIL HOLES AND PAINTING TRIM. RICH AND ANN WERE INSTALLING BASEBOARD TRIM AND A DOOR.
                   PETER AND SAL WERE INSTALLING PORCH CORNER POSTS. JIM AND MIKE WERE ASSEMBLING SLIDING DOOR FRAMES AND INSERTS.
                   DOUG ASSISTED WITH VARIOUS TASKS THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
                   VOLUNTEERS LEFT BETWEEN 12 AND 2 PM.
                   RESTORE DELIVERED HRV'S AND WE RETURNED VARIOUS ITEMS TO STORAGE AREA THAT WE FEEL WE CAN DO WITHOUT NOW.

COMMENT: THE LUMBER AND MATERIALS WE ARE GETTING FROM MUSKOKA LUMBER IN BALA IS EXCEPTIONALLY  WELL PRICED.

NEXT: NEED MORE TRIM INSTALLERS FOR TOMORROW TO COMPLETE TRIM IN 1014A. PAINTING, EXCEPT FINAL TOUCH-UPS IS ESSENTIALLY COMPLETE.
          I HAVE CONTACTED BUTTLER TO INSTALL THE SUMP PUMPS AND THE HRV SYSTEMS. SUMPS TOMORROW AND HRV NEXT WEEK.
          HARRY WESTERBY GETTING A DISCOUNTED PRICE FOR HFH FOR EAVES TROUGH SUPPLY AND INSTALL.
          VINCENT ENTERPRISES TO START ROOF TOMORROW.

PLEASE HELP BY KEEPING YOUR FINGERS CROSSED FOR GOOD WEATHER FOR ANOTHER WEEK (IN SPITE OF THE FORECASTS).

  • JEREMY MCMEEKIN (AKZO NOBEL) AND DAVE DAMIGNANI ( AKZO NOBEL) THESE TWO GENTLEMEN WERE FROM THE COMPANY THAT SUPPLIED THE PAINT, WHICH INCLUDES MANY BRAND SUCH AS CIL WHICH  WE ARE USING. 
  • CHARLIE AND LINDA (SORRY, I DON'T HAVE THE LAST NAME) WHO ARE INSTALLING THE FLOORING.

  • HARRY WESTERBY TO DROP OFF THE VINYL SIDING. HE WILL BE RETURNING THURSDAY TO INSTALL THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

ACTIVITIES:




  •  SUSAN, CAROL, JEREMY AND DAVE FILLED AND PAINTED UP A STORM. 
  • DOUG MADE A RUN TO THE TRANSFER  STATION AND DOUG AND PETER RETURNED THE SCAFFOLDING THE REMAINED ON SITE.
  • PETER FINISHED TRIM IN THE BEDROOMS OF 1014. HE PAINTED PORCH POSTS. AND OTHER STUFF.
  • DOUG WAS CLEANING UP THE YARD. SNAPPING CHALK LINES ON THE WALL FOR FILL LEVEL.
  • FLOORING SHOULD BE COMPLETE TODAY IN 1014A.

  • INSTALL FLOORING IN 1014. THIS WILL PROBALY CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY.

Running for the finish line!

CONTRACTORS: LAWRENCE SEEHAVER MASONRY.
 

  • JIM AND MIKE WORKED ON INSTALLING TRIM IN THE 2 UNITS. IT IS AS COMPLETE AS POSSIBLE PENDING THE FLOORING GOING IN.
  • NAN WAS BACK AND FORTH TO THE COFFEE SHOP, THE LUMBER STORE AND THE SITE, AS WELL AS GETTING HER CAR SERVICED!
  • TONI WAS SHORT OF PAINTERS TODAY ALTHOUGH HAD HELP FROM CHRIS FOR HALF A DAY. IT DIDNT SEEM TO SLOW HER DOWN.... SHE SAID SHE WOULD FINISH PAINTING 1014 AND SHE DID AS PROMISED. HOLY MACKAREL SHE CAN PAINT!
  • BOTH UNITS ARE NOW PAINTED AND LOOKING GOOD!!  
  • BRIAN WAS IN TO START THE DAY WITH VOLUNTEER LIST.  
  • DOUG PAINTED TRIM AND THEN WAS UP ON THE ROOF WITH A FRIEND AND CAULKED AROUND THE FURNACE AND PLUMBING PENETRATIONS IN PREPARATION FOR THJE FLOORING. 
  • LAWRENCE SEEHAVE FINISHED THE PARGING TODAY...WHEW!... JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS. HAVING SAID THE IT IS THE BEST PARGING JOB I HAVE SEEN. HE AND HIS GUYS NEED TO BE CONGRATULATED.  
  • MICK WAS IN TO MEASURE THE POWER BOX OPENINGS AND WILL BE BUILDING THEM IN HIS SHOP.  
  • JANE DELIVERED  ALL THE FIXTURES FOR THE FINISHING TRIM THAT SHE AND I LISTED YESTERDAY.   

NEXT:
Major clean up day

  • TOMORROW IS A MAJOR CLEANUP DAY. WE WILL BE EMPTYING THE 2 UNITS COMPLETELY IN PREPARATION FOR THE COMPLETE FLOORING INSTALL IN BOTH UNITS
  • ON SATURDAY,SUNDAY AND MONDAY. BECAUSE OF THEIR WORK PLAN WE WILL NOT HAVE ANY VOLUNTEERS WORKING SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY.  
  • STARTING TUESDAY WE URGENTLY NEED MANY VOLUNTEERS ON SITE WITH CARPENTRY SKILLS, DRYWALL SKILLS, TRIM SKILLS (2 PEOPLE), PAINTING SKILLS AND GENERAL HELP SKILLS.
  • I WILL BE ORDERING FILL  AND GRADING. SUBSEQUENTLY WE WILL BE BUILDING THE STEPS AND RAMP.
  • HOPEFULLY INSTALLING KITCHEN SOON.

STARTING TUESDAY IT IS A WHOLE NEW BALL GAME RUNNING FOR THE FINISH LINE!!!!

Trimming, fixing, flooring and exhorting

CONTRACTORS: LAKELAND CONTRACTING, 
                         HPN PLUMBING.  


ACTIVITIES: *NAN ALLEN WAS INVOLVED ALL DAY EXHORTING PEOPLE ONWARD AND PICKING UP SUPPLIES.
                   IAN WALLACE DROPPED OFF THE SILLS, ALL ROUTED AND NCUT TO SIZE FOR 1014.
                   JIM AND  PETER WORKED ON RIPPING, CUTTING AND INSTALLING TRIM ON DOORS AND WINDOWS.
                   MIKE INSTALLED DRYWALL AND CORNER BEAD.
                   DOUG WAS BUSY PAINTING TRIM.
                   UNDER TONI'S DIRECTION THE LADIES (MARY, CHRIS, ROBERTA) WERE ALL VERY INVOLVED IN PAINTING THE WALLS IN 1014.
                   JANE PIERRE WAS ON SITE AND WE DID A SURVEY OFF ALL FIXTURES REQUIRED FOR FINISH TRIM.
                   RESTORE DELIVERED 16 MORE BAGS OF PARGING MIX FROM TOBIN.

BRAD ANTONIDIS AND CREW FROM LAKELAND CONTRACTING WERE IN FOR THE AFTERNOON AND WILLINGLY HELPED BY INSTALLING ALL THE PLYWOOD UNDERLAY FOR THE VINYL FLOORING. THEY ALSO INSTALLED SOME WINDOW TRIM AND 2 DOOR FRAMES ON THE BEDROOMS BEING CARPETED.
IT WAS TIMELY TO GET THIS KIND OF HELP BEFORE THE WEEKEND WORK.

HPN BOYS WERE INSTALLING THE MANIFOLD FOR THE PRESURRE SYSTEM. IT SEEMS THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF THE STATUS OF THE PLUMBING INSPECTION AND MINE DONT AGREE. THEY ARE FOLLOWING UP. IN THE MEANTIME WE STILL HAVE PRESSURE GUAGES INSTALLED IN 1014 BATHROOM.

ALL IN ALL A BUSY AND PRODUCTIVE DAY.

NEXT: FINISH PAINTING 1014.
          CONTINUE WITH TRIM INSTALL. 
          PARGING SCHEDULED TO BE COMPLETED TOMORROW.
          MUD UNFINISHED DRYWALL IN BASEMENT STAIRWAY.
         OBTAIN PORCH POSTS TO BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO SIDING AND SOFFITS.
         OBTAIN STRINGERS AND 2X6'S FOR STEPS IN BASEMENT.   
         INVENTORY INTERIOR DOOR LATCH SET QUANTITIES FOR JANE.
         OBTAIN BUILDING PAPER TO PROTECT INSTALLED FLOORING.

NOTE: FRIDAY IS CLEAN UP DAY IN PREPARATION FOR FLOORING INSTALL ON THE WEEKEND AND ON MONDAY.
          AT THIS TIME THERE WILL BE NO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED SATURDAY AND MONDAY.
          ON TUESDAY IT'S ALL HANDS ON DECK TO FINISH MANY JOBS THAT WILL BE FREED UP AFTER FLOOR INSTALL.
          LOTS OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY.

  • FINISHED SANDING 1014 TODAY AFTER WORKING ON SUNDAY AS WELL. ALL MUDDING IS NOW COMPLETE EXCEPT AROUND ELECTRICAL PANELS AND STAIRWELL IN 1014. VOLUNTEERS WILL COMPLETE THIS WORK. 
  • LAWRENCE SEEHAVER FROM SEEHAVER CONCRETE WORKED ON PARGING WALLS ALL DAY. THIS IS MAJOR!!!! HE WILL RETURN TOMORROW TO COMPLETE PARGING.

ACTIVITIES


  • TONI, LEE AND CHRIS PAINTED WALLS AND TRIM  ALL DAY.
  • JIM AND PETER CUT AND INSTALLED TRIM   
  • IAN WALLACE CAME BY AND PICKED UP MDF TO CUT AND ROUTE SILLS FOR 1014.
NEXT

  • ALL HANDS ON DECK FOR CLEAN-UP TO PREP FOR WALL AND TRIM  PAINTING AS WELL AS FLOORING INSTALLATION THIS WEEKEND.
  • LOTS OF PAINTING OF TRIM, WALLS AND FLOOR TO DO. (NOTE THAT 1014A PAINTING IS COMPLETE DUE TO HARD WORK BY TONI AND CREW).
  • AS A RESULT OF THE DEPTH OF PARGE NEEDED DUE TO LATH WE WILL BE OBTAINING MORE PRE MIX PARGE TOMORROW AM.

NOTE

WE HAVE AN ABUNDANCE OF VOLUNTEERS FOR TRIM INSTALLATION ( PROBUS, LAKESHORE CONTRACTING, LEE FROM ROYAL LEPAGE, IAN WALLACE AND VOLUNTEERS THAT HAVE BEEN INVOLVED ALL ALONG, ETC.

HOWEVER, THE TRIM INSTALL CANNOT ALL BE DONE AT ONCE (WE ARE DOING SOME BEFORE FLOOR INSTALL AND SOME AFTER FOR INSTANCE). MUCH OF IT STILL  HAS TO BE CUT AND PAINTED.  SO I WILL BE SCHEDULING AVAILABLE INSTALLERS ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS AS THE WORK AND THE CANDIDATES ARE AVAILABLE. AS A RESULT WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO USE ALL THE TRIM VOLUNTEERS.

                   I CONTACTED BUILDING INSPECTOR TO DETERMINE STATUS OF PLUMBING INSPECTION. 
                   TALKED TO BRADLEY CONTRACTING TO CONFIRM SITE TIME TOMORROW FOR TRIM WORK.
                   VARIOUS TRIM, PAINTING AND WORK DISCUSSIONS WITH VOLUNTEERS.

NEXT: COMPLETE PARGING ON THURSDAY.
          TRIM, PAINT CLEAN UP FOR WEEKEND FLOORING INSTALL.

NOTE: AS IT STANDS NOW WE WILL  NOT BE NEEDING VOLUNTEERS FOR SATURDAY, SUNDAY, AND MONDAY SINCE FLOORING INSTALLERS WILL BE MOVING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN BOTH UNITS TO INSTALL FLOORING BY TYPE AND IN SEQUENCE IN EACH UNIT. i WILL BE IN AND OUT TO CHECK ON INSTALL DURING THE 3 DAYS.

  • ALL ABLE BODIES CARRIED BUCKETS OF CEMENT UP TO MAIN FLOOR, DOWN TO BASEMENT TO FILL FOOTINGS IN BOTH HOUSES. THIS IS A MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT!!!!!
  • PORCH CONCRETE WAS POURED AND FINISHED BY STEVE AND VOLUNTEERS.
  • FURNACE TANK AND PIPE INSTALLATION WAS COMPLETED IN BOTH UNITS BY STEVE AND BILL FROM BUTTLER. WE NOW HAVE FURNACE CERTIFICATION (I HAVE THE DOCUMENTS) AND READY FOR TANK FILL.
  • INSTALLED BOOTS ON SEWER VENT PIPES FOR BOTH UNITS.  
                        
THE WORK TODAY WAS A HUGE SUCCESS WITH A GREAT EFFORT BY ALL!!!

  •  BUTTLER HEATING, STEVE AND JIM, WERE IN AND COMPLETED THE TANK HOOK UP AND THE INLET AND BREATHER PIPES. THEY WILL BE IN TODAY TO INSTALL THE FURNACE PIPE.
  •  IAN WALLACE (VOLUNTEER) WAS IN TO DISCUSS TRIM INSTALL. EXCEPT FOR WINDOW TRIM THE REMAINDER IS BEING  HELD UP TILL THE FLOORS ARE IN.

  • JEAN, SUE AND ( THE VOLUNTEER'S NAME ESCAPES ME) PAINTED TRIM ALL DAY UNDER JIM'S HELP AND ASSISTANCE. 
  • MIKE AND DOUG ASSISTED WITH CLEAN-UP AND TAKING TRAILER OF TRASH TO THE DUMP. THEY ALSO TRAILERED THE FENCING BACK TO PRO-LINE. AFTER THAT THEY STARTED INSTALLING WINDOW TRIM.           
I WAS AWAY YESTERDAY AT A FUNERAL AND JIM PARTRIDGE AGREED TO STEP IN. THE VOLUNTEERS INSTALLED THE LOCKS ON THE FRONT DOORS AND CONTINUED PAINTING TRIM AND BEDROOM WALLS IN 1014A.

  •  I TALKED TO RON BRENT AND AND HE IS READY TO DELIVER SOIL, GRANIT SCREENING AND 3/4 STONE WHEN WE ARE READY. THIS WILL HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY THE PARGING IS COMPLETE AND EITHER BEFORE OR AFTER SIDING TO ACCOMODATE SCAFFOLDING MOVEMENT.
  • VINYL SIDING INSTALL: HARRY WESTERBY SIDING.
  • CONTINUE WINDOW TRIM INSTALL AND PAINTING. 
  • FOLLOW-UP ON FLOORING SELECTION AND DELIVERY AND HYDRO POLE REMOVAL.

  • HAD MDF DELIVERED FOR JAMB EXTENSIONS. JANE DELIVERED LOCK SETS AND BEDROOM PAINT. 
  • REVIEWED STATUS OF KITCHEN CABINETS, INTERIOR DOORS AND  FLOORING WITH JANE AND ELLEN. 
  • CABINET DELIVERY BEING FOLLOWED UP.
  • INTERIOR DOORS COMING FROM MW&D. 
  • LAKESHORE FLOORING BEING CONTACTED BY ELLEN.

  • TOOK A LOAD TO THE TRANSFER STATION OF ALL CUT-OFFS AND SCRAP LUMBER. 
  • RETURNED ALL TOOLS TO THE BASEMENT AND CLEARED AND SWEPT MAIN FLOOR, READY FOR MUDDING.
  • DAN GOFORTH SENDING IN A SECOND DRYWALLER TOMORROW TO ASSIST BOB JUKES IN MUDDING SECOND UNIT.
  • ATTIC ACCESS PORT MODIFIED FOR 1014 TO LESSEN WEIGHT. 
  • "OCEAN CAN" PICKED UP AND RETURNED TO CRS. OUTHOUSE "REFRESHED".

I WILL MAKE A DECISION TOMORROW ON THE NEED FOR BEAVER CREEK FOLKS ON FRIDAY. ALSO ROB, WE WILL HAVE TO TOUCH BASE TOMORROW ABOUT SATURDAY.

  • MIKE ANTICIPATES FINISHING MUDDING 1014 MID WEEK NEXT WEEK.
  • SUMP PUMP INSTALLED IN 1014A YESTERDAY.

  • ESSENTIALLY UNAVAILABLE. WEATHER NEXT WEEK LOOKS MODERATE AT THIS TIME...LETS HOPE IT IS THAT WAY.
  • WE HAVE SOME CLEANUP TO DO AND SOME SMALL JOBS BUT WITH PAINTING DONE ON 1014A WE ARE NOW WAITING FOR MUDDING COMPLETION, PARGING.
